An unjustified action.
Yes, Japan did horrible things over the course of the war. Yes, there could have been a much bigger loss of life if the bombs weren't used.
Thing is - Japan was willing to conditionally surrender already. The US refused to listen. Hell, they didn't even care about Japan - they were preparing more bombs. Their planned invasion wasn't benched for the bomb - the bomb was a supplement to the invasion.
They were, in all likelihood, going to commit genocide on the Japanese people - good thing they didn't, otherwise my lovely opinion wouldn't be here - and this was all in the name of intimidating Russia.
And look how well THAT turned out.

Compare modern day Hiroshima to modern day Detroit. One looks like it was bombed, the other looks completely the opposite.

I would say that we didn't want to bomb Japan, but we felt like we had to. Not to say the actions were justified, but it was a much more justified than Iraq.

You can read all about Operation: Doomsday, hell on Wikipedia - if you've got access to jSTOR, then you can find the General's memoires. I've written an essay on it too - trust me - they wanted to destroy Nippon

Doubtful - it was an assignment I had to do in 1st year history. Point is - I wrote an essay on it - and got a fairly good mark for it. EDIT: Here - I uploaded onto Google Docs

My immediate thought when I saw the title of this thread and what section it was in: "Ahem...Like really? Does this topic actually require debate???"
