So what are people's opinions on Astrology? You know, the alignment of the planets & stars at birth will have a profound effect on your 'destiny'. To me, it's complete nonsense.
Discuss!

Pretty certain none of its true.
But its still fun! =D
And I guess if your horoscope talks about you having a good day or something you'd be more likely to realise all the good things that happened in your day , so you could think it works?

It's bull, but it can be amusing anyway. Each sign has so many little attributes about it that people are bound to match their signs fairly well at least a majority of the time, and so forth.

Astrology has absolutely no basis in truth. Is there a debate about this?

Although I think it's all dogpoop, sometimes horoscopes can be coicidentally right. Calls to mind the other week, one of my friends wanted to go on this impromtu trip somewhere, and twice most of us couldnt/wouldnt go, so we planned a day to do. Although I planned on going, on the day we ended up not going again, and my friend complained for about half an hour. Then at lunch we were reading our horoscopes and I asked her to read mine. It said "A trip you were planning today will not happen". Man, she had a field day with that one.

Astrology is fun and tends to give common sense advice. That's all it really needs. I'll stop where I have to start paying for it.

however similar to a monkey trying to crack a coconut with a banana is is quite amusing to see

0.000001% of it is bound to be true, maybe less...

I think it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
If your horoscope says you're going to have a great day, you will look for signs for it to be true. So it will, for you. And it works the other way around as well, if you think you're going to have a bad day, you'll start your day badly, so you will have a bad day.

Yeah the descriptions are vague enough that most people can find something they relate to in the description, and as others have said it is a self-fulfilling prophecy sort of thing. If anyone wants to learn about themselves they could try personality tests like the big five or the MBTI which are more accurate (flawed but still fairly accurate).

And it works the other way around as well, if you think you're going to have a bad day, you'll start your day badly, so you will have a bad day. Absolutely true. I remember once looking at a book about astrology when I was a kid and gullible. It had the description for the different sun signs, so I looked at mine, which is scorpio, and I thought that it was true, since there were a couple parallels between the description and my actual personality and psyche. I now realize that I would have come to the same conclusion no matter what sign I was. So, as everyone else pointed out, astrology, and any other method of fortune telling, is complete BS, but it's still sort of amusing.

imo, it's all fake. Giant balls of gas, plasma, and rock? please. As said earlier, it is interesting, however.

Complete psuedo-science and a mockery of what we actually strive for. I do not find it amusing. Instead I find it detrimental to our procuring of knowledge.

I am new here and of course I don't plan to stir a lot of controversy, but I have to disagree with you, and also give a huge face-paw. Look if you think astrology is meant to be tell the future then your really missing the point. and yes "self fulfilling prophecy" might have something to do with the people who are really into Astrology. but is astrology worthless? no of course not.
Much like tarot, I believe Astrology means to tell you what is likely based on your "lot in life" not what will defiantly happen.
Also. don't trust newspaper and net horoscope, there are more then 12 kinds of people in the world. Astrology may be pseudoscience, but the operative word is "science" their is an exact art, with precise calculations.
for instance, do you realize everyone has three signs? all those ever talk about is your sun sign.
anyway, I think divination is more about introspection then "telling the future" and I think astrology does a good job of that. Even if Astrology isn't the form of divination I've worked with the most, I think there's some merit in it Don't close yourself off to it, Astrology doesn't ask people to abandon reason and science, it's just a tool to better yourself as a person, what's wrong with that?
