Parallels and VMware Fusion are also good alternatives for running Windows inside Mac (instead of resorting to boot camp, which is annoying as it is necessary switch between both). A free alternative is also VirtualBox, which is capable of almost as much as Parallels and VMware Fusion, for free.

running a OS inside another OS won't show you it's value. (how can it when you have resources going to the main OS, the emulator and to the vitural OS?) to give it a real shot it has to be pure OR a dual boot and as far as "he doesn't need a new machine" well if he decides he likes one over the other the other one can be donated or sold on e-bay (marketed as Dans computer from Dan 3.0 might even get more than he paid for it) also there are projects like "Use your idle computer time to cure diseases! " pogotribe.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=projects&action=display&thread=172 that could be done if he kept them.

Hey, if Dan like Macs, and they work for him and for this project, don't make him change. Maybe he could get a laptop PC for typing up Word Documents?

First of all, there's Microsoft Word for OS X too, and secondly, there's are lots of other programs for the Mac that can write Word documents too (Pages, OpenOffice.org Writer, AbiWord, NeoOffice etc.)

I'm not against this, but I'm not for it. I guess I don't see the real benefit of him having a PC over a Mac. Don't get me wrong, I have a PC myself, but their both computers and they do the same stuff (mostly) so how is him getting a PC going to benefit... anyone? this is how I feel. Personally, I love the PC I have, so I'm not going to stop anyone from making that purchase over a Mac, but: there are no real benefits here for Dan. It seems like a waste of his money/energy to me, more than anything.

It's actually quite pathetic that your spreading your little 4chan style OS war. Your like 13 year olds sitting around a table declaring how big your genitals are when in reality either side is terrified that they are inferior to the other.
At the end of the day your making your taking your own little turf war and trying to make someone waste money on something that they haven't even expressed any interest in. If he decides the "yes a PC is something that i could actually do with" then fair enough but in the mean time what are you trying to prove? Are you afraid that if you dont preach his word as holy scripture Bill Gates will come to house late at night and make you swallow shattered copies of vista's installation disk?
I changed to Mac, mainly because I don't play games and I work with video and believe me working with video on a PC is akin to brushing your teeth with barbed wire. If I played games the I would get a PC. I would also like to point out that I don't buy into all the Apple gadgets, I don't nor do I want an iPhone, iPod or iPad and I also use Microsoft Office on my Mac simply because it's the better option.
How many windows fan boy's have an iPod or iPhone or even listen to music off their PC using iTunes, so stop going out of your way to make conflict where there doesn't need to be one you'll just end up being a little hypocrite.
What you've also got to consider that by doing this your force Dan to take a side in your little debate is going to negatively effect him because should he express an opinion a lot of the more fanatical viewers will inevitably attack him with spam or even unsubscribe to his channel completely. So really this whole topic is a completely selfish idea based on your own need to assert some sort of superiority over on another.

How are we going out of our way to cause conflict - I have said a few times quite clearly that I would like this whole argument to stop.
This won't force Dan to take a side, because he will have both computers so really he will be equally poised on both sides.
And all of the people saying that we just want to be able to say that PCs are better than Macs tell me this:
How will the fact that Dan Brown has a PC make us feel that PCs are better than Macs, when there are way more influential people who use Macs?
It won't! So that's not what we're trying to do here.

It won't! So that's not what we're trying to do here. So what is the point of this coalition then? You've decided that he needs a PC but not really given a proper reason (that or i've missed it in the pages of Microsoft and Apple fanboys trying to find flaws in each others products) for him to have one. Clearly your trying to prove some point or force your own preference on him. And maybe Dan wont express a preference but the fact the such a debate could be mentioned will just result in the inevitable gathering of frenzied youtube trolls. Either way it's making him waste money on something that he has really expressed an interest in and I know that there's an argument that he could just spend less on a lower end computer, which is even more ridiculous since if your going to be forced to get something you don't really want why bother getting a rubbish version which may as well be used as a doorstop since he's already got a perfectly good computer which is more than capable to doing things a cheep laptop can. I would like a truly justifiable reason why people should support this coalition. Not one which tries to enforce someone else's preference but a reason which expresses which it would be beneficial to him and the whole project. In the mean time I don't see how this coalition is going to do that though. Perhaps if you proposed that you get him to build a PC that would be more interesting, it's constructive and more intelligent than just getting him to buy one.

I said that we weren't trying to say that PCs are better than Macs, You asked "what is the point of this coalition"
And I would have thought the answer is quite obivous: To get Dan to buy a PC
