I do agree though, when I first heard the word 'gay' used on RWJ, I was like "..eh?", but then I got it was meant to be funny. It still isn't, though, but I sort of get it. Being gay is a serious mental disorder and should be handled with respect. Just kidding, but really though, I don't think you should use it as an insult. Because it isn't. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsVgk9oMyx8

Why is anyone offended by words like gay or nigger? Does that mean that atheists cant use the word hell, cause it has no negative meaning for them? Does ANYONE (catholic priests excluded) think that having sex(fuck) is something horrible? "Please dont say fuck, cause I fuck alot, and I take offense when you use it as something negative"
I use "cock" as a curse all the time, and frankly, beeing a dude, I have nothing against penises, I actually wear one to work EVERY day! As I said, I simply dont understand why anyone would be offended by the use of "regular" words as curse words....

I don't appreciate when people use the word "gay" to describe a situation, but I can deal with it. I find it to be similar to saying the situation sucks/stinks/is bull****, but I really wish they could use other wording.
When people start insulting one another by saying they're gay or they imply that homosexuality is a negative trait, that gets on my nerves. A good number of my close friends are homosexual, and I find it wrong when someone so blatantly insults them in the process of insulting someone else. Imagine if someone called another person "black" or "colored" to insult them, regardless of if they were black or not -- it would be viewed as extremely offensive, so I don't see why "gay" and "homo" are any more acceptable.
And for anyone who says that it's better because being homosexual is a choice and not predetermined genetically, why don't we use religious terms such as "Catholic", "Jew", or "Mormon" as general insults as well?

That's a really good point.. If someone were to insult me by saying "You're a female"... hahah, BAD things would happen. And that goes along with what you said.. And for the religious thing, I don't know about anyone else, but I DO hear the term "Jewish" used as an insult. And it really bothers me...

Whenever someone reaches down to grab a penny, nickel, dime, or quarter, someone shouts out "JEW!" It's terrible.

Interesting question. I have both thought it is offensive, and it is not at different times. But ultimately I have to say using the terms "gay" and "fag" are not offensive (or shouldn't be taken as such) Before those terms were used so globally to describe sexual orientation, they had other meanings, For example gay meant happy. Also, in Britain fag means cigarette or something like that. Then we changed the world's perceptions on additional meanings for the words, now those meanings (sexual orientation) seem to be the dominant meanings. If those words can have cultural meanings added, or lessened to them then why should we take any one meaning too explain the others. For example in Gay "Happy" and "homosexual" are not mutually exclusive, however you also can be happy and not homosexual, or a homosexual and not happy. Now we use the term frequently to describe something thats messed up, or stupid which imo is just another one of those added meanings that can and cannot be mutually exclusive with the other meanings. As society evolves, so does our language, and if we cannot accept that then we become ignorant.
And yes, it might be insulting to have two meanings such as homosexual and stupid to share a word, but thats kind of like when someone uses "sick" to describe something really cool, or someone who is deranged or under the weather.
In conclusion, we should accept the changing words, move on, and not take it as an insult, because its not like at the time someone is saying it they are insulting gay people, they are expressing their dislike from something, they probably didn't even think that they were in any way insulting anyone homosexual.

People use gay as an insult all the time, so it's not like we've just found hot water. I used to find it offensive, now I can't give a flying monkey about it. Freedom of speech. I honestly don't see the point in being offended by simple words. But I still think that whoever uses fag, faggot or whatever other form there is,as an insult, should seriously consider shoving it up their ass. just saying.

I still say you need to seriously re-write what you said before. I can't take any of your posts seriously in this thread at all. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Look dude, you need to think about what I said. I'm not offended by the words fag OR gay. I just said that generally FAG is a really ugly word to say, pronounce and all that jazz. And when used as an insult it's even uglier. Whatever.
