As far as I'm concerned, using phrases such as "That's gay", "Omg, you're such a faggot!", and "Sup, mah nigg?" are all locker room talk. It's something you can say around your friends (Even your gay friends!), but not around your boss!( Even though, he probably uses those phrases just as often xD). It's the same thing for guys making comments about a girl's glutes "in the locker room." Or, a girl making comments about a man's genitalia "In the locker room" (idk, do girls do that? lol). Quite frankly, I think any person, whether male or female, who complains about it while "in the locker room" is just a little, let's say, bitch? Of course, that opinion isn't directed at anyone specifically, I'm talking in a plural sense here. Here's an example of what locker room talk might look like (I honestly think it's the funniest pic from a commercial I've evar seen xD): Attachments:

mmmrm. I generally try to avoid using these sorts of words, but I have used them. and yes I know plenty of gay men who use "gay" or even refer to gay men who uphold the effeminate stereotype as "faggots" and the n word has always bothered me to extent that it has become a "secret club" if it's not okay to say, then don't. if it is then don't get offended when white people say it. you can't have it both ways. it's not about the word, it's the intent. let your wigga friends be maybe I should start calling my Irish friends "paddys..."

I also don't agree with people using the word gay as a negative adjective. Yes "lame" might have meant crippled some time ago, but the connection is long gone, and that's no the case with the meanings of gay I don't quite agree with this. When i say something is "gay" i am not saying its homosexual so actually it is the EXACT same thing

Did you guys know that "Dumb" actually means deaf? I guess when you call someone dumb, that means you're discriminating deaf people

Today at my Gay-Straight Alliance meeting, we talked about using the words "gay" and "fag" as insults. I personally am against it, as I know many other people are. But I also know people (both gay and straight) that have no problem with it. So what do you guys think about using "gay" or "fag" as an insult? To me, using those words insinuates that homosexuality is bad. It's pejorative, just like the N word. However, I once heard someone argue that the meanings of words change over time, and it's just something that we have to let happen. The word "lame" used to mean crippled, but now no one takes offense if you call something lame. So, yeah.. What do you think? Do you use these words or get offended if you hear someone using them? In the sence of the meanings of words changeing... the word Gay originally ment "happy". I think it was in the 40s or 50 it was common for people to say they were Gay and not have anything to do with liking the same sex. Listen to some of the music around that time. Fag on the other hand was even featured on South Park useing multiple different definitions most of which are actully in the dictionary with the exception of one that was made up for the episode. The kids of south park were saying that a fag was basically a loud obnoxious jerk like a motorcycle rider. They centered on motor cycle riders who were passing threw town at the time. The kids even went as far as to sprey paint the words "Fags get out" on some of the buildings in town. Everyone else in town thought it was directed at homosexuals even though it wasn't. Of course earlier episodes of South Park before Mr. Garison came out of the closet, choose to break the 4th wall and say that only someone who is a homosexual can say the word Fag without being bleeped and there was a joke where Mr. Garison said it along with a bunch of other guys, everyone else was bleeped out but Mr. Garison said it without the bleep and then everyone started giving him the stink eye. That being said useing any word as an insult is wrong. Alot of words have multiple meanings not all of which are bad and yet it still becomes bad to say them. Bitch for example is a female dog in heat but it's more commanly used as an insult to human women. I would agree that saying that word to insult a woman is wrong but there's nothing wrong with saying bitch in it's original form. The N word is one I will never say as I don't know there is any other context to use it other than as an insult to African Americans. If I found there were other meanings for it I might not have an issue with it. I can't remember what it is now but one of my friends posted on FaceBook a while ago that the symbol commonly associated with the Nazis originally had a different meaning so it's not only words but images.

Did you guys know that "Dumb" actually means deaf? I guess when you call someone dumb, that means you're discriminating deaf people Actually, dumb means mute. I think the reason 'gay' is still stigmatizing is that hating gay people is, frankly, still not that uncommon. We've made it past discriminating against people with disabilities such as the mute or deaf, but we haven't made it past discriminating against homosexuality yet. (Well, many of us have, but not enough.) Until we're past that point, using gay as an insult will remain stigmatizing.

sorry if i offend anyone here but i thought this was kinda related
"Some people have a problem with me using the word 'gay' all the time, saying that I'm being homophobic.
Thing is, when I say 'gay' I don't actually mean 'homosexual'; I just use the word to describe anything that's bad in the world.
And if you don't like it, you can just jew off and stop being so fucking black about it."

I can't remember what it is now but one of my friends posted on FaceBook a while ago that the symbol commonly associated with the Nazis originally had a different meaning so it's not only words but images. That would be the swastika. It's originally the most holy symbol in both Hinduism and Jainism. If I'm correct it represents peace and love. It's also used in Buddhism nowadays. seen here: Then there's also some other usages of the swastika: The symbol for the Finnish Air Force form 1918-1944 The symbol for the Latvian Air Force, also from 1918-1944 And then of course the symbol it's mostly associated with, the Nazi swastika (if this image isn't supposed to be on this forum, sorry, but it's ridiculous not to show stuff like this)

There was a point in time, like you guys have said, when lame meant crippled. Now we're at a point in time when it doesn't. This mean between these two points in time there was a transition phase where it meant both, kind of like gay does today. So yeah, I foresee that one day it won't be associated with homosexuals anymore. Gay is just another adjective, so I really have no problem with it.
As for fag, I completely disagree with this. It is used as an insulting term towards a person and is derogatory.

I am completely against saying gay as an insult, but every once in a while a "gay" slips out, and the only way I found to combat it is to say, "I mean gay as in queer, and queer as in weird, so what I was really saying was, 'That's weird'"
It works kind of well...
