I think we shouldn't post such a message in every thread. o.o I think the introduction-threads should be just for saying "O hai". And then, if you notice after a few hours, they still have only two posts, you can PM them with that message (btw, I love the text, it's brilliant. xD). To get around the e-pride you have to keep mentoring personal and non-public. ^^

shut up clickety..... cause I obviously don't know how to :-P
yea, Yokailo, the trouble is it is a lot of work to type out something personal and be personal with someone, especially if you are doing it 2-12 times a day and continuing those relationships further. It takes real commitment.

shut up clickety..... cause I obviously don't know how to :-P D. u r hurts me grandpa. But yeah, the thing about automated messages is that they're the same for everyone. But I don't really see the problem in that.

Well even in the message I typed, a good deal of it could be copy/pasted. The middle portion I skipped about the forum topics could easily be a once every two week rewrite. As long as the opening is original enough to grab there attention and make them say "Hey someone sent me something and it's not a bot" is the main thing. It's all about the intro and outro.

I think automated messages would be fine as long as they were from real people, and real people could be replied to.
Otherwise the personal side is going to be something like "I see from your name you like rabbits, I like how they have long ears." as people get more and more tired. But maybe you guys wont get tired, I just know I would. I used to try to write something personal to every single stranger my band added on myspace, and while it was a nice touch, I couldn't keep it up. personal responses to the automatic messages would generate more personal responses, we'd have the same end result.

I like what Cameron posted about the message in the "Suggestions" section, but Bree is against it, sooo we need something that WE can do on our own to greet new people.

How does it make it more personal? As Rabbitwho said, it'll just end up people pointing out random things about them.

First off, Click3tyClick, I really appreciate your attitude, it's spot on. Now, I'd like to put my peace-maker hat on, if that's alright. Conjoin Music, I feel that it is the responsibility of not only you, but every member of this forum to treat others with utmost respect. Please try not to use the fact that you joined SPOTM in March and Dorian joined in April as a weapon against him. The life-span of this entire tribe is pretty young, and i think right now it is vital to support the execution of ideas, whether or not you may agree with them. I think as a member of one of the first triads, people look up to you. I would encourage you to use that position of respect as a place to encourage others. Dorian Gray, I think that your idea is could be a good one. To have a PM sitting in your inbox as soon as you join up with the contents of the sticky thread idea I previously mentioned could be a great resource for new members to get involved in the community. I think you have a lot of enthusiasm, but choosing your words more wisely when declaring that you're going to move forward with an unpopular idea might prevent feelings from being hurt in the future. I'd encourage both of you to come up with an idea together and get to know each other in the process. You're both more than welcome to help me with the sticky thread project. Click here, as I've started a new thread for it, since it is decidedly different than the Welcoming Task Force idea originally proposed.

Sir Andy- I only said that because of his disrespect against me. I'm not using it against him, I'm actually happy that he's so enthusiastic about doing something. For the third time, my intentions have been misunderstood.

Bree is currently unsure of her feelings about an auotmated PM.

Just wanted to point out that I think Conjoin joined (lolwut) the moon before March, in the old moon. But yes, that doesn't really matter, and all members, regardless of their join date, should be respected. However, I do think that, as I have already said, Dorian's reply to Conjoin was a bit unreasonable. But eh, I don't know. Also, thanks for the compliment.

If Dorian was on the moon before, I would have picked a different reason that he shouldn't scream at me in text (ie: He's 19 and I'm 14) but the experience was the first thing that came to my mind. I thought that was over though. I deleted all the posts about it besides the original.

Apologies to Conjoin, I did not know you'd been around longer, and thanks to Click3ty for pointing that out. I understand now that your intentions were good. Using seniority as a reason not to be screamed at may just lead to more screaming. In the future we might consider the ideal of treating all tribe members with respect as our reason.

The only real issue with the Welcoming Task Force, which was there even on the old moon, and which kinda drew it to a standstill, was that there is no fluent way of checking off which users have been greeted. It would mean that there will have to be at least one person all the time sitting around, recieving notes about who's been greeted and so on, so that that person can for example write that on a wiki page or whatever... I'm just afraid that it will demand a level of communication and organization that we cannot mobilize. If we can come up with a way to solve that problem (we can call it The Check List Problem), we can move forward.
The thing is, I have a feeling that those who have the potential of doing good and being active on the forums, does that without being greeted in a PM. Also, as the PM notification is placed on the layout right now, we can't even be sure that users see them.
Maybe we should just make a sticky in the introductions forum consisting of a list of volunteers that new users can contact for guidance?
