ok so Im sorry, one more thing to add. I think the Anti-Twilight Movement site is a bit tooo far. Why? (I'm not being rude or trying to say you're wrong, I'm just curious) x Because it's a book series for young adults, lol. There are worse things to speak of in the bible, and we give those to young kids. I'm reading through the so called "Manipulative and controlling actions", yet I also see that the context is being inappropriately twisted. It's like when a radical Christian calls an abortionist a baby killer. I'll present an example by means of "Eeny Meany". "♦ ♦ ♦-Edward frightens Bella unnecessarily with his vampirism but does not take steps to ensure her safety. He constantly reminds her that if he wanted to, he could crush her, and she wouldn't have a chance." The writer implies that Edward uses this as a control tactic, but this is not the case. Edward is Deeply afraid he is going to hurt Bell. He's constantly reminding her not to do things that might tempt him too much, because he's afraid won't be able to control his vampiric impulses. He hates that fact that he is cursed with this power, and he doesn't want it.

yes, THANK YOU TREY! U are a lifesaver! ur right, it was stupidly used, not in the right context at all. SM is implying exactly what you were saying. Thank you for putting it in my perspective. And your right, it is a series for young adults (by that do you mean teenagers?)

Twilight reads like bad fan fiction and really shouldn't be taken seriously as a novel If you want sparkly vampires who love you for no reason other than you exist then fine But please dont make kids read it and tell them its literature We have good books in the world that can handle that nicely

In my opinion, it's a fun little page turner. I enjoyed the series, even though I'm a guy. Everyone has their guilty pleasures.

Debate Club? o.O
If you want fantasy novels that are light page turners but still with some substance, and actual fantasies, I'd say Xanth by Piers Anthony. Though if you want romance I can't help there.

And I could argue that page turners can never beat a quality fantasy like Tolkien's The Hobbit (btw, my favorite fantasy book!).
It's all opinion. You could say that Twilight is unimaginative, but so is Avatar's storyline.

Thank you for putting it in my perspective. And your right, it is a series for young adults (by that do you mean teenagers?) Am I the only one who sees the fact that this book is read by thousands of tween and teen girls as a problem? A lot of the girls and boys reading this book are going to be very impressionable and this book is going to expose them to ideas that are very unhealthy.

I guess we should shield our children from movies like Jumper, Star Wars, and Avatar. I mean, it's unhealthy for our children to want to be able to teleport, sling lightsabers, or run around in avatars. After all, children are very impressionable!

I'm not saying we should stop people reading the books, what I'm saying is the teenagers who read these novels (and other novels that appear to condone such unhealthy behaviours) should question what they're reading and often they don't.
The anti-twilight movement website does an excellent job of showing how the novels promote these ideas without being terribly insulting or rude.

Oh come on, the whole conversation is stupid. The movies are REALLY bad, and its most likely the same for the books. On the other hand, no one is forcing me to read it, so I don't give a SHIRT if this is what every 13 years old girl in america wants to read.

WOAH WOAH WOAHHHH!!!(do I have to do this almost every post?) ok so, first things first, THIS POST WAS FOR ALL FANTASY BOOKS, NOT JUST TWILIGHT! Second, people, you can state ur own opinions, but be considerate to others!(god, I just sounded soo old there!) Thirdly, (with the sarcasm) Trey is right. If we can't have Twilight on the table, then we might as well take away LOTR, and those other books! And, Kadie. REALLY?! UNHEALTHY BEHAVIORS? wow, sorry. And, Avatar did have a sucky plot. It was like Pochahonus with blue ppl. And, its OUR choice in what we see, read, and do! I chose to read Twilight and I love it! A LOT of ppl chose to read HP and they love it! It was their choice. And it was mine. Its your choice to not like Twilight. What happened to Harry Potter? I mean, it probs caused a bit of a controversy (if that what this is...?)

Avatar was so......bad. I mean the storyline of cours. Especially the ending, I mean....really, nature is just going to come in and save the day. All animals unite, and save the day! I'm sure I saw the same ending in one of the Disnay movies.

Juno yes really! also I'm not saying that you don't have the right to read the book, or that anyone else doesn't. What I do think, however, is that people should discuss and be made aware of the unhealthy things promoted in the the twilight saga so that they do not think that these are the correct behaviors to have. And quite frankly I think the publishers should have been more responsible and not published this book in the first place.

Here's an interesting LiveJournal post concerning Twilight. If you don't want to read it, it basically shows parallels between the books and Mormon beliefs. It does go a little overboard on bashing the books, but it's interesting if nothing else. In my personal opinion, Twilight should've been confined to sites like FictionPress, just from the writing style of the books (seriously, some of the stories on that site are so similar to Twilight it's not even funny). I perfectly understand the appeal of the books and I have no problem with other people enjoying them, but I don't like it when people insist that it's the best. Book. EVAR! Or when they compare Meyer to literary giants such as JRR Tolkien or even Shakespeare. I also think that calling it a "saga" is inappropriate, because this implies a certain level of epic-ness, which I don't believe the Twilight series has. On the general topic, I would recommend to any fantasy aficionados any book by RA Salvatore (especially The Highwayman or any of his Drizz't Do'Urden books) or the Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix (aimed towards young teens, but a good series nonetheless). And if you plan on reading some Tolkien be prepared for some cumbersome language, as he does have a tendency to describe nearly every last detail in a scene, IMO (still a great story, though).
