Hello, fello n00bs! or that might be just me that's the n00b...whatever! So, I'll admit, I'm a twi-hard. I LOVE TWILIGHT! U haters go ahead and laugh, I dont give a crap. I like Harry Potter too! Who doesn't? Amazing books. ;D What fantasy books do you like? I love Hogwarts and Forks. My sister is obsessed with the Harry Potter books, and I'm obsessed with Twilight. What do you think about all the publicity that Stephanie Meyer, The Twilight Saga, Robert Pattinson *drools*, Kristen Stewert (ewwww!!), and Taylor Latuner are getting? Do you think they deserve it? Will it be a passing fad? Will all of those huge stars of the now be yesterday's news? Or will they be around tomomorow? I think, since a lot of things are passing fads, these genre of literature will pass. But, has Twilight, HP, or anyother series will make fantasy books forever? Post what you think! I want to know!

Imma guess you're team Edward. You made the right choice ^_^ Also, I only read up to half way through Eclipse... yeah... I don't read. Anyways, I read The Looking Glass Wars and loved it. I read the sequal, Seeing Reed, and loved it even more. I started reading the 3rd one, Arch Enemy, and got bored. Again, I don't read.

Beware, I have lengthy opinions. Though I usually refrain from the subject, I think this time I will share my views about Twilight, just so I can get it all in writing for future reference.
First of all, I do not consider twilight to be a Fantasy novel, despite the book's themes. A fantasy novel implies a more substantial plot, take Chronicles of Narnia for example: it could never happen (making it fantasy) but there is also a consistent plot throughout the book. Twilight is a romance novel. I believe it belongs in the romance section of the bookstore and if it had been placed there first, I would not have read it, saving me a lot of time. I read it (the whole series, in fact) under the assumption that it was a fantasy novel, and was disappointed.
Now, the book itself. I understand why people like the series. It takes the main purpose of reading fiction to the next level. We read fiction, watch TV shows, play video games, etc. to escape our lives and experience things we could never do in reality. Twilight offers (mostly) girls the opportunity to meet a perfect, yet dangerous guy that lives only to love and care about the reader. This is why Edward is described so much more than Bella, she represents every person who reads the books and can't have too many distinct characteristics. I truly believe that the few chapters of plot thrown in at the end was for the benefit of readers like myself, who read the book hoping it would contain much more plot than it did. That, plus the preview chapter of the next book and the end, is the only reason I read all four books, to find out what happens next. It was only after I finished them all did I realize that each book was very long, but barely anything happened.
Why read the books? If you want to feel special even though there's nothing special about you, or loved when no one seems to (and you don't have a problem with sparkly vampires) then Twilight is the book for you. If you're looking for vampires fighting werewolves/other vampires or any sort of action novel along those lines, don't waste your time.
...Oh yeah, their publicity. XD I really don't mind anymore that Twilight is popular. I have a feeling that after all the movies have been made, the series will not be as overtly popular. Really the only problem I have with the books at this point is when they are compared to quality literature. I saw a short magazine article that compared Twilight to Romeo and Juliet, which ignited a fresh sense of hate in me. In my opinion, Shakespeare deserves much more respect than that.

I only have a problem with Twilight when one of these things happens:
1. I hear about it being taught in schools. Uh...really? Of all the brilliant novels in the world to choose from, you choose Twilight to teach? God, this makes me angry. xD
2. When I see stuff like "BELLA AND EDWARD'S FAVORITE BOOK" on classics such as Wuthering Heights. I understand why, but I sure as hell don't agree with it.
Anyway, beyond those two things, I'm fine with Twilight. The insane fandom is a little annoying sometimes, but there are insane fans of everyone, not just Twilight. It's easy enough to avoid it. =P
My favorite fantasy novels are Lord of the Rings books. I also love Harry Potter, of course.

I read Twilight because everyone on facebook was talking about it 2 years ago. I read the first one, I liked it. I read the 2nd one, I liked it. I read half the 3rd one, I liked it, but had better things to do than read. I haven't picked up the book in over a year >.>

Trey but the thing with twilight is that it's not just a romance novel. The protagonist Bella is basically in an abusive relationship. The thousands of tween and teenage girls that read this are all being delivered this message that if you're in an abusive relationship it's fine so long as the guy loves you. This is an incredibly unhealthy attitude to have and thousands of girls will grow up thinking that it's the right one. 1. I hear about it being taught in schools. Uh...really? Trey I have read the entire series and have seen both films. Edward is manipulative, controlling and abusive towards Bella and, even if this was not Meyers intention when writing the novels, Meyer condones this throughout the novels. theantitwilightmovement.webs.com/about.htm#relationshipsThis link shows several specific examples of this happening throughout the series. Also the way this series portrays women is appalling!

I liked Twilight when I first read it (before the movies came out) because I was lonely and wanted the perfect boyfriend who would love me forever (which means I loved Edward at first). Then I realized that he was so perfect that he was lame (that's when I like Jacob more).
Then I realized that I don't really even like the series that much. It's not so much fantasy as it is romance (don't get me wrong- I like romance books, just ones that aren't about sparkly vampires). Plus, the fact that Edward has literally almost no interests other than general things like music and reading (I guess) really bothers me. Nobody in the world is that boring!
I think Twilight is just a fad at the moment. Maybe it'll be a big hit for around another year or two, but it'll probably stop being so popular after that. Also, my friend is obsessed. It's all she talks about. I hate it so much that she knows I don't even care when she tells me a story about it.
So...yeah. I like Harry Potter more.

Yeah, twilight is more urban paranormal romance. Werewolves and vampires are better genre'd in with paranormal than fantasy.

hey, hey, heyy! calm down, ppl! @amytheyst, I think you're right. I mean, its slightly unnessery for Twilight to be taught in school. I wouldn't nessarily pull my child out of that school, but, it is dumb. Sorry, its a fantasy/romance/heavy on the romance genre of book. NOO!! Well I SUPPORT Edward, but Im team RPattz all the way.

I agree, the Anti-Twilight Movement is a bit overkill. Basically, those who like Twilight are gonna like Twilight, no matter what. People who don't like Twilight aren't gonna like Twilight, no matter what. So, other than assembling all Twilight haters in one place, what does it accomplish? To devote so much time and resources to being against one particular book series is giving it more attention than it deserves.
