What do you mean by that? I have never felt a gap in software for using a mac. If there is really some program that is Windows only, there is WINE. (Linux geeks rejoice!) This is one of the things that kinda bugs me about Mac. Linux and Windows both have software that can run their programs on other operating systems, but there's no way to run Mac software on Windows or Linux. Apple keeps changing up the kernel often enough to make it too difficult to be worth doing, or so I've been told by people in the WINE community before. So in short, Mac gets to run Windows and Linux programs, but Windows and Linux can't run anything only for Mac, because it's too closed up. As for Windows being crap for running servers... of course it is. :\ There's a reason Unix is so popular. But for home computers, I don't get the argument about Windows crashing all the time. Sure, if you had Vista or anything ME or earlier, but if we're talking about XP or 7, you pretty much had to beat it up to get it to crash.

Win7 is ok, I guess. I have used it twice for 10 min.

Win7's decent. If you have XP I wouldn't run out to spend money on it. But it is a huge improvement over Vista. It's got the stability back for starters, and the system resources are back to being quite manageable. I got a copy cheap through my university, so I put it on my old laptop which had Vista, dual 2.2's and 2.5GB RAM (should NEVER have come with Vista on those specs) and it runs nice and zippy, even gaming is no problem for most games I own. Of course, if you want DX10 or later then that's different I guess.

Vista ran fine on my dual-core with only 1GB RAM...

What Mac software would you want to run on a non-Mac PC anyways?

Probably Final Cut and/or iLife are the only ones I can think of. If you're not into any sort of multimedia, then you're pretty much SOL on that one...

Scrivener, actually. But recently it's coming out for Windows anyway. (Still in beta, supposed to be out for Windows some time early next year.) The comment more reflected my feelings from last year when I was scouring the web for a way to get it working on PC, which didn't exist. So that became a moot point lol. There are actually a few Mac-only novel writing programs. Must have something to do with Starbucks novel writers.

Final Cut isn't the only Non-linear editing program. Sony Vegas, or, hell, even Windows Movie Maker do the same job - just with different performance. iLife is just a compression of different software - Windows Media Center does the same thing What I meant in my question was is there really any program that's mac-exclusive that you can't do with a different program on a different operating system?

Windows and PC both have many many many programs for each that do the same thing. The iLife interface is just a lot more intuitive. Always has been.
...Although I gotta say that comparing Final Cut to Movie Maker is pure nonsense. Really.

iMovie compared to Movie Maker is nonsense. Anyway, I like macs, but I also really like Win7. I prefer mac just because I like them more. Next version of windows, I'll probably be running on bootcamp..

The funny thing about having Mac exclusive software that is really good is that it enables other companies to make a buck too. For example, you can only get Final Cut for Mac. Ergo, why Adobe premiere and Sony Vegas do so well, because there needs to be a parallel for Windows. BAM! Instant win for all.

^^^I lol'd at the statement at the bottom of the page - $3000 to $4000 for a Mac. Yeah OK!
I like my Mac. For $1200, it treats me very well and does what I want/need it to with no problems. ;D

My brand new tower PC at work with Windows 7 couldn't even go it's first week without crashing. (I run a lot of BIG programs at once.) A $400 netbook would probably burst into flames then run away crying! My Mac... Doesn't crash. Any questions?

My mac has crashed on me 3 TIMES IN IT'S WHOLE 1 YEAR LIFE.
1) I was poking some system files. 2) Right after installing Steam. 3) Playing minecraft.
And none of them have repeated. EVER.

Was it the OS or the program(s) that crashed?

Games that I've accidentally opened twice, and just ran in the background for pretty much the entire session before I noticed: Civilization 4 Portal Half Life 2 Any of the 6 most recent Touhou games Number of programs I have running right now: 12 that I know of PC Speed: faster then my room-mate's mac, which was bought around the same time. Number of times my computer has crashed: once in the 3 years I had it, and it was because of a faulty RAM chip Number of times my computer has overheated: It actually automatically shuts down before it gets to that threshold The one thing that a Macbook from the same year has over this laptop: the keyboard Your mac doesn't crash because it's idiot-proofed.
