I wonder how many people who watched the video and were not familiar with the FSM actually bothered to look at the links Dan had provided or googled FSM to find out more before making angry, annoyed comments or Unsubing =/ Kadie x probably about .5%

"Without a winking smiley or other blatant display of humour, it is impossible to create a parody of fundamentalism that someone won't mistake for the real thing." From a wiki page that references it.

Dan's subscriber number right now: 215,283 hmm, couple of moments later: 215,281 Let's see how that evolves Well luckily it's steadied out now. There was like a two hour period where he lost subscribers - presumablely when it appeared in subscriber's subscription boxes and before it was sent around to non-subscribers. But on the day before his video, he got 358 subscribers. One the day he released his video, 394. And then the day after (today), 338.

So I looked it up and got a feel for what the Tea Party Movement is from wikipedia, but seeing as many of you are American's you would probably be able to better tell me what sort of reputation it has in America, and in a perhaps more opinionated way than wikipedias "non-bias" way.

these guys have some really interesting interviews with Tea Party members. www.youtube.com/user/NewLeftMediaToo be honest, they are probably picking out the worst cases (as their name implies, they are left media), though I've heard from other sources that about 75% of the Tea Party members are actually like this. But it's still astounding how misinformed these people are..

After my last post I did much the same thing Jake just described doing. Looking up the Tea Party movement on Wiki's and YouTube. It made me realize that this seemingly silly video to someone who is a novice on the subject of politics want to learn more and be informed so that I can properly discuss the subject matter. Now knowing a little more about Sara Palin and the movement I can say I agree with just about all of you in saying I don't care for either one. Now that said I wouldn't bring myself down to their level by exorcising Dan from the list of people I subscribe to because he now (post FSM experience) likes them.
Me, I suspect Dan lost a very large bet and this is part of it, although I think the insertion of the FMS in this hilarious story is his Idea of keeping it light hearted. The reason I think people are angry about his statements are because of their strong negative feelings towards this group. A better and more productive way to deal with this would be to promote your side rather then put down theirs. I have seen the Sara Palin videos and yes it may be easy to make jokes and poke fun of her on YouTube because of the total nonsense that seems to come out of her mouth during any and all interviews (which beg the question of who in their right mind would pay the woman $100,000 for a speech) but their should be a non-bias side too and legitimate points and counter points given. But thats just how a Canadian sees is. Time to go back to my igloo.

As far as I'm concerned, Dan is a total badass genius. Of course, that's using my belief of what the whole video was about.
For the sake of letting the whole thing evolve on it's own without ruining anything, all I have to say is... Ramen.

hes giving an example of values #2 and #7
imbracing his inner weird and standing by what he knows to be true (eventhough it may contradict what others believe to be true)

His tweet is what is making me think. Dan says "contrary to popular belief my latest video is not a joke, I SUPPORT THE TEA PARTY MOVEMENT 150%." Now I'm only 14 and I really don't get this at all. Would anyone be kind enough to explain it to me? Probably, Dan does support the movement, because he believes they have a right to freedom of speech, and people shouldn't be shooting them down the way they currently are. So he made his recent video to show everyone how we were all acting (yelling at him, unsubscribing, etc.), and to show that we shouldn't be discriminating just because of beliefs. Therefore his video was not a joke, but rather a satire in a sense, to make a point. If this is the case, it does not make him an FSM believer, nor does it make his tweet untrue.

I was a little disappointed with this video. Up until now, I believed that Dan had a very bipartisan view on most subjects. No matter what he has talked about he still manages to see the other side of things even if in the end he disagrees. Although he said the tea party movement was a good thing, he failed to mention the good things about the movement. He has told us that we should take part in this but never told us why.
I also feel that the sarcasm used in this video works to make fun of the idea of supporting the tea party movement. "If he believes in the flying spaghetti monster why should we listen to him about following the tea party movements?" I believe that it is this kind of publicity that has so wronged these movements in the eyes of mainstream media. This aspect surprises me most of all because when you begin to make fun of the opposite side you eliminate the possibility for a peaceful discussion and therefore destroy the creation of new ideas.
I have been a faithful member of the tribe, though this is my first discussion I have taken part in, and I feel that through this half sarcastic video and the ideals of the tea party omitted, that Dan has in fact... failed us. At the end of the day I don't care what his view is on the subject as long as he approaches it with respect for those who do not agree.
I do recognize that this video is meant to be a joke. But still, I believe that a follow up video should be supplied so that we as members of the pogo-tribe do not rush into things uninformed. I do not use Dan Brown as my only source of information, but rather use the arguments that he supplies as a stepping stone to allow myself to make my own opinion. I suggest we all do the same.
Sorry Dan, but I think you went a little too far with this joke.
