I'm so excited for this. I REALLY want to help out, but I'm already so busy.. I volunteered for Dan's Pogotok 5 thing, and I have my own secret project and all this irl stuff... D: Maybe I could share a topic with someone else? I really want to be involved, even if I don't have time... :\ You can share one with me if you like? I'm on board for this I made mockup for the design btw... *Sorry for thread hijack :S

Did you guys click the link and take a look at what I've already have gotten? Yes, I like that, but should it be a bit more specific? If it's a monthly thing, that looks really good. But, if we're going to do it every week, should it be a bit more specific, since we're going to be a bit more specific?

Oooh, punchjunky's looks more weekly ish.
If anyone thinks it's a good idea, I suggested doing both and if people wanted, they could just get the monthly one or both. If anyone likes that, we could have them be two different formats so they can be easily told apart.

Not entirely sure if I'm too late to start in on this, but I'd love to help. I'd be all for getting a design for the newsletter, working with punchjunky, Nick Greydon, and anyone else who wants to work on designing it.
As for how we produce/send it out, I suggest a mass e-mail system you can opt-in, or out of, and send the newsletter either as an e-mail with images, or send the newsletter in a form everyone would be able to open (.jpg, .pdf) as attachments, or have them hosted on Rapidshare or Megaupload, with a link reminding them in the e-mail that this weeks newsletter is ready for viewing.

I think this started as simply a Grover and Newbie thing, but I like the idea of a newsletter like what I get from say, seriouseats or something. Just, the biggest things happening on the site that week. That way, if I haven't been keeping up like I should, I can just get back up to speed with everyone else.

For the Newsletter, I suggest we have an email to send in articles, which could then be added to a Google Doc to be edited and finalised before exporting to the template (ie one of our designs). So we need some designers, some writers and some editers.

Well, I'm going into journalism(as of now, who knows what I'll want in two weeks)...so writing or editing would be my strong point.

Shall we all just add on Skype? I'm the same as here. I think it should be more for specifics of things since here others can join in and that's sort of the point.

I'm up for just about anything, though I tend to gravitate more towards writing and design. D'you guys think it would also be a good idea to post the weekly newsletters up on a blog (or something similar)? It might be an easier way for people to browse the archives, rather than searching through their e-mails. Or, if someone just wants to check out the newsletter, but doesn't want to subscribe to the e-mail notification, they can browse at their own leisure. Also, what day is the newsletter going to be published? When would deadlines be? (Friday/Saturday for first draft submissions, with the finished newsletter to be sent out/published Sunday afternoon?)

Sweet guys! Oh and there's no reason why you can't have more than one job at once, but I think we should limit the amount of Editors we have to say, 3 or 4, too many cooks and all that, but we'll leave the articles open for anyone to submit, unless you think we should have the same writers every week? halfthecarbs I did the design in photoshop, but It'll probably be easier to do it in a different program, any thoughts?

Either of those programs could work pretty well for this project. (InDesign would probably be easier for this, as the program is better suited for projects with multiple pages. It's used a lot in book design and layout.)

I did the design in photoshop, but It'll probably be easier to do it in a different program, any thoughts? I like Photoshop for graphics, and laying out a rough, but InDesign for me works loads better when working for a layout/copy-based project such as a brochure or newsletter. Either will work though, if we're going the .jpg or .pdf route.

Speckley Glad to have you on board! For publishing I was thinking perhaps we export as an image, which could be added to a dedicated page on the wiki, we could then have a thread on here giving a link each week when a new one comes out. But that's just one idea, and it would depend on the newsletter being only one page. As for deadlines, I think we should post mid-week, because then people can write articles on the weekend when they have free-time. I don't have InDesign, but maybe once we finalise a design, you could port it to InDesign and you guys can be the official put stuff together guys

FIRST POST UPDATED, TELL ME WHAT'S MISSING!!
P.s: Sorry I've haven't been posting as much, I just wanted to first see how it would all unfold.
Also, I think once we are 100% sure who is going to write. We have to come up with a better way of deciding who is going to write what, so they are evenly spread and nobody gets too much work (keeping in mind how busy each person is)

I'm decided! I'm going to share a topic with Punchjunky! I think biweekly is good.. or is that no longer an option? And I think we should put them on the wiki, but maybe still send out emails, too.
