Over at the "Letters to Grover" thread we came up with the idea of creating a newsletter that would serve to put up to date everyone without having to read every single thread. If you want to subscribe to the newsletter send an e-mail to: LettersToGrover@gmail.com with the subject "Pogotribe" At the moment: The title of the Newsletter will be "Letters to Grover" with the subtitle "PogoTribe Newsletter" Our first deadline has been set = The Newsletter should be up and running by Tuesday March 30 E-mails will be sent by LettersToGrover@gmail.com The Newsletter will also be posted on the wiki, and the forum and will be available for download. Here is a link to the wiki Writers must send their stories to: pogopaper@gmail.com for the editors to review. list of the people participating on the project:pjpinc123 Click3tyClick Nick Greyden dandelions8910 penguinpalsrkewl Speckley runforthefinish carterj3995 Linus chelseeyuh (undecided) PunchJunky halfthecarbs scorpia3215 *me From them:Project Leads: Nick Greydon, Ricky Designing: Design director: Halfthecarbs Designers: Punchjunky, Speckley. I think this is really an...awesome idea. I would LOVE to help. I'm willing to do anything, but I guess my top picks would be Introductions, the internets, or projects.
(P.S. I'm an aspiring journalism major...if that helps)

Well I am and have been in my high school journalism class, but all I do is be a photo editor... so I'm not sure if I'm up for the writing part. If we want it to be like that... but If it's just some short blurbs about what happened in the past two weeks or just getting stuff together I'd be glad to help?

Ok guys, here is what I've done so far. rapidshare.com/files/360095739/Test_Setup.pdf.htmlNow what I need is feedback. What needs to be there that isn't? What is there that needs to go? Also, I've used the pogotribe forum logo for the first page header, but it would be nice to have one created for the newsletter itself. The reason for it's slim design is it was created with Grover in mind and that he will not have access to the internet. However, if it is felt that it might serve as a roadmap for a newbie to SPOTM, then it can be increased and thicken. Please note that all "information" within is false and a bad attempt to take up space under the headers. Also note that the fields will fill up quickly when there is increased activity and booming news. The Dan's Project portion may even need to be divided up further. The Intro by Dan section is something I would like to see, but is easily removed. With his big project coming up, youtube videos to make, twitter to keep up with, daily vlogging, forums, etc, he seems to be stretched pretty thin. This, like the entire thing, is an idea only and I have not spoken with Dan himself about it. I do have faith that if he declines to do this, it will be only from lack of time. As I said, he seems to be stretched pretty thin at the moment and I don't think anyone could possibly fault him for declining to put something else on his table. As far as Grover goes, I hope to get Dan's permission to nab his Pogotok's as well as his youtube vids to burn them to cd/dvd to send them to Grover. This is also something that would have to be in the works as Dan is a busy guy and I don't have his number in my phone :-) Also, if I could find some way to mine the forum data off the website I'd like to send it as well, but that all depends on how much help can be given, if I can find some way to do it, and if it is legal :-) Anyway guys, this is what I have. Rip it up, tear it apart, tear it down, blow it up, and get some good graphic stuff. This is the roughest of the rough drafts for it. Those that can write, volunteer, those that can do graphical wizard work, get to making magic. Grover leaves in 23 days and I'd like to have something to work with by then :-) Also on a side note. I was planning on putting one of these out a week for Grover. If it is decided to put them out from the newbies as well, I would request that it is done only once a month. The reason is that this will keep one of our community up to date on happenings fairly quickly and hopefully his responses can be chimed in. For the new people, its more of a directory of what is going on and will be full of more things as it will include many internet links etc. So now it's your turn. Take it and make it more awesome. Nothing is set in stone, it's all about making it the best we can for Grover and everyone else. Edit: I know the original idea was for bi-weekly but I set the easier to reach goal of weekly to monthly for now until we can see who we have to work on it and how it goes before decreasing the time between publications.

I'm interested, though I'm not sure what I would want to cover. My gut tells me to go for Anything and Everything, but it can be such a broad topic to cover... it sort of intimidates me. Heh. If you don't want to use the header from the SPOTM, I might be able to pull something together. The question is: are we going grayscale/b&w, or are we going color. Color is easy enough to pull off for the web, certainly, but grayscale is easier to print. Or maybe I'm thinking too far into the print medium. (I publish mini-comics on occasion. My mind is thinking: black and white is cheaper to print. XD) Anyway. Here are a couple of headers I put together... Photobucket sort of screwed up on the sizes, though. Is the newsletter itself going to be called "Letters to Grover", or are we going to come up with a different name for the community's letter? (The newbie-letter?)

I like the Letters to Grover idea to be the title. Then as a subtitle, have it say Pogotribe Newsletter. LETTERS TO GROVER -Pogotribe Newsletter-

What a FANTASTIC idea although i think it should be weekly because there is soo much information to talk about. Heck, you could do a daily newsletter over all the stuff on this site but i think weekly will be better. Especially when he announces his project, there is gonna be TONS to talk about.

I agree weekly is the best, but as the community grows the numbers of issues a week can change.

I'm so excited for this. I REALLY want to help out, but I'm already so busy.. I volunteered for Dan's Pogotok 5 thing, and I have my own secret project and all this irl stuff... D: Maybe I could share a topic with someone else? I really want to be involved, even if I don't have time... :\

I'm definitely still in. I agree about the title being Letters to Grover with a subtitle PogoTribe Newsletter. I think weekly would be best and if when Dan's project gets up and running we need to make the Newbie one a little more general, we can make it monthly or something.

I would most definitely like to participate in this in one way or another =) if so then I would like to write about Projects and/or Pogopedia news or something like that.
However, I do wonder: we may be able to create one newsletter with stuff, but the community at this stage is so small I wonder if we will be able to make a weekly newsletter justice?

I'm definitely in. I'll probably help with the technical stuff, and looking in the 'Projects' forum. I'm interested, though I'm not sure what I would want to cover. My gut tells me to go for Anything and Everything, but it can be such a broad topic to cover... it sort of intimidates me. Heh.

Is the newsletter itself going to be called "Letters to Grover", or are we going to come up with a different name for the community's letter? (The newbie-letter?) Those are both great! Although I think we should call it The Pogotribe Newsletter, because new people who haven't read the 'Letters to Grover' thread might get confused. Also, are we going to use a mailing list manager, or just send it to multiple addresses?

Also, are we going to use a mailing list manager, or just send it to multiple addresses? That's what the subtitle is for, right? I think a simple mail merge would be fine. Definitely not too tough and more efficient than simply sending to multiple addresses. Obviously Grover's will be paper, but are we thinking of doing this like an email thing or what?

It's in Word. (I'm on a Mac, but at school we use windows and I've got access to my mom's dell) It's where you have a document and you can manage a database of addresses(email or physical or both, really) and you can send all the emails at once and easily update the database, instead of having to keep track of who's new to add to the list of recipients each time, you simply add it to the database and then it's there. Also, that would allow us to do it every week and every month(thinking unreasonably big here) so that if people want to subscribe every month, we can only send them a sort of "wrap up" of the whole month and if they want to be informed every week, we can send them the more focused ones. I think that's a good idea since not everyone would want something every week or maybe they're really involved and don't want to get emails about things they already know or something.
Just a thought.
