Go Week day vegetarian, it also reduces your carbon footprint (well, I'm not a cook, and I have no better recipes than people posting before)

GO VEGETARIAN. Just for the year. That's not allowed in the suggestion rules - after a month of not eating meat the human body starts to lose the ability to process meat protiens.
For Dan to go vegetarian for an entire year would mean that he's pretty much a vegetarian for life, which is, as I said, against the rules, because that means that Dan would be committing to a task that would last well past the Dan 3.0 year. That's part of why I said in my other post that he shouldn't go vegetarian (the main part being that it's very easy to screw up if you don't know what you're doing - which Dan has already admitted to)

All he'd need to do is take enzymes with his meals until his body know he's eating meat again. But anyways vegetarianism isn't healthy, and I wouldn't suggest Dan goes vegetarian. There are far healthier ways of eating than that, and they're better for the planet.

Meat Loaf (with cooking abbreviation translations): 2c ("c" for cup) hamburger small onion chopped 1/3c ketchup 1/2c oatmeal 1egg 1tsp (lowercase "t" means teaspoon) salt 1/8tsp pepper pre-heat oven to 350 mix all ingredients except glaze pack into glass loaf pan after cooked a little while (not red anymore) put glaze on top Glaze: 1/4c ketchup 2Tsp (capital "T" means tablespoon) brown sugar 1Tsp mayonnaise about an hour do not buy lean meat when done drain grease This is easier than it might think. One of my first meals when I left home and when I was a broke college student all I needed to buy additional to make it was the ground beef and onion. (you could also ask your mom for her recipe as well, but this is my mom's)

One word, Dan... Tilapia! It's the REAL chicken of the sea. It is a cheap EASY to prepare and very VERY light flavored fish which means you can do ANYTHING with it.
I recommend Cumin Encrusted Tilapia Fillet with a mango/cilantro chutney.
Takes about 10 - 20 minutes to make and requires a grand total of 5 ingredients
Tilapia Cumin Mangos Cilantro Olive Oil
Completely coat the fish in cumin. Cake it on! Then lightly oil a frying pan and drop the fish into a medium to medium-high heated pan. While this side is frying (3 - 5 minutes) chop up half a mango. it doesnt have to be perfect but smaller chunks are easier to eat. Then chop up some cilantro (as much as u like. I LOVE cilantro so...)
Now check the fish, if the under side is getting nice and brown, give it a flip, you don't wanna blacken the cumin but u do wanna darken it. then add some olive oil to a bowl (teaspoon - tablespoon) and add cilantro and mango (maybe some pepper. I like pepper) mix it up and put it aside (you want the cilantro and mango to marry up for a few minutes so their flavors combine)
once the fish is good and cooked (cut into it to make sure its cooked all the way through.) If it is not done turn the heat down and flip it often until it is done.
Put fish on a plate and top with chutney or put it on the side if u prefer. Add a salad or your favorite veggies and BAM. you got a healthy and DELICIOUS meal!

I have a super-easy recipe for taquitos that is healthy (only about 100 calories each and packed with protien).
Nonstick spray (I use PAM)
1 can of chicken (don't worry, canned chicken is delicious and already cooked--saves time.)
Your favorite salsa
Taco seasoning (if you don't want to buy taco seasoning I just use garlic powder, a bit of cayenne pepper, and some salt and pepper or Ms. Dash)
Shredded cheese
Tortillas
Whatever you like with taquitos--more salsa, guacamole, sour cream, ect.
Flake the canned chicken into a bowl and add enough salsa to cover all the chicken. Mix in a handful of shredded cheese and the taco seasoning, then refrigerate for 5 minutes. Drain off any excess liquid and set aside--this is your filling. Lightly spray your tortillas with the nonstick spray (this makes them crunchy) and spoon a couple of tablespoons of the filling into the tortilla. Wrap it up into a cigar-shaped tube and put it seam-down on a pan. Bake until the tortillas don't give when you poke them. Then devour.
I've made it for myself, for family and friends, and every time I've gotten rave reviews, they're very yummy. 2 of them ought to fill you up but this recipe makes about 6 to 8 taquitos, depending on how much you fill the tortillas with. So share with your housemate.

My Chili Recipe:
- 3 cups lentils - 2 cups brown rice (the lentil-rice combination is a complete protein) - 1 red bell pepper - 1 large onion - 1 tablespoon soy sauce - 1 tomato - 2 cups tomato sauce - 2 cloves garlic - 3 tablespoons chili powder - 2 teaspoons cayenne (add more or less depending on how spicy you like it) - 1 tablespoon cumin - 2 tablespoons mayonnaise (dried, preferably) - 2 tablespoons canola or safflower oil
Either soak the 3 cups of lentils overnight, or submerge them in water, bring to a boil and then let simmer for 15-20 minutes. Either way you do this, drain and rinse them after to get rid of the enzyme inhibitors (found in many beans and legumes). Set aside. Prepare the rice and set aside with the lentils.
Preheat a pot, add oil and diced onion and pepper. Cook for five minutes on medium heat. Add minced garlic, cook for 2-3 more minutes. Add the tomato, diced (here you can add the soy sauce). Cook for 5 more minutes, then add the rice and lentils, stir and then add the tomato sauce. Bring the heat up a little higher and then add the spices, mayonnaise and syrup. Heat well for 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently, and then remove from heat. Let cool slightly, and then serve.
I'm eating this right now, actually. It's good, if I may say so myself.
All of this is approximated, so you don't have to be too picky about the measurements. It's actually super easy to make. A quick and healthy chili, and of course you can store it in the fridge when you're done for leftovers.

There are far healthier ways of eating than that, and they're better for the planet. Nice bit of vegetarian bashing going on there. It is quite possible to be vegetarian and be healthy and don't buy in the to delusion that just because you don't eat meat your not getting any protein or that you have to take loads of supplements in order to keep you alive. Eating meat is more likely to have a negative impact on your body than not eating it at all. Humans aren't designed to have large portions of it with every meal, traditionally you probably would have only eaten a high meat content meal once a week. Due to our current excessive intake of meat we now have cases of obesity and heart disease on an a unprecedented scale. Apart from being on the slightly skinny side sometimes how many unhealthy vegetarians do you know. I'm not saying don't eat meat, because at the end of the day if your not eating it excessively then it's good for you, just don't label people who choose not to eat it as being perpetually ill and unhealthy. Ok some really simple pasta sauce recipes Tomato sauce: slowly fry a small onion in olive oil adding 2 finely chopped cloves of garlic as the onions soften up. When the garlic is brown (careful not to burn as garlic fries quickly). Then at a tin of chopped tomatoes with oregano, a small amount of salt and a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar (or red wine) (you can add beef mince whilst frying the onion) Simple Cream sauce: Ok starting with frying an onion again but this time in butter and in a saucepan with the lid on on a very low heat. When the onions are soft and a yellow colour (just starting to go brown) add sweat corn, about 250ml of single cream and quite a lot of black pepper (going by taste), leave to heat up for about 5 mins careful not to let the cream boil. (you can also add ham to this) and finally cooking with vodka in it (as a note here, the alcohol is all pretty much boiled away so it wont get you drunk but it will give the sauce a bit of a kick to it) Fry 2 large cloves garlic is olive oil until brown, add tinned chopped tomatoes with basil, a little salt and 250ml of vodka and leave to boil for about 30-40 mins. Whilst the tomatoes are boiling grate a block of parmesan cheese and gently heat 300ml of single cream on the hob. whilst making the sauce boil spaghetti so the it'll be ready at the same time as the tomato part of the sauce is done. Put the spaghetti in to a large serving bowl and pour on the cream, parmesan and tomatoes and the mix together. Done - This will serve around 4 people normally. Note: the amounts show are rough guesses since I've been cooking these sorts of things for so many years I don't find I need a recipe in front of me anymore but you can always add more or less to taste. I'll try and get round to posting some other recipes later.

what about spaghetti bolognese? apologies in advance for all the britishness if you don't understand something! you will need: -Mince, lamb is the best for this -Spaghetti (or linguine/pasta depending on preference, this recipe uses dried pasta so boiling water is required) -Basil- I use dried herb -Thyme- I use dried herb -Tomato Puree -Stock cubes (I use chicken but beef, vegetable etc works too!) -Salt -Vegetable Oil -Cornflower, add 2 heaped teaspoons to a mug and add a splash of water, not too little or the mixture is hard to stir so add more water, not too much or the sauce will become too runny, if too runny just add more cornflower mixture -Boiling Water -(Optional, Chopped onions and Tinned Chopped Tomatoes) Bolognese: -Empty mince into an appropriate sized sauce pan, if not lamb mince add some cooking oil in the bottom of the pan or the mince will singe! -Heat and stir mince regularly until 'browned off' or rather no red can be seen. This should take about 10 mins (ish) -Add about 1 tablespoon of tomato puree, adjust to taste -Add 1 teaspoon of Basil and 1 teaspoon of Thyme -Break up stock cubes into the pan (I use 2 but adjust to taste) -(this is where you would add any chopped onions and some of the tinned chopped tomatoes, adjust to taste) -Add boiled water and stir the mixture, it should be like a meaty red brown soup at this point -Allow to simmer for 5 minutes or until boiling -Turn heat down low and add cornflower mixture as instructed earlier, the sauce should thicken. If too thick add more boiling water -After a couple of minutes the bolognese is ready to serve! Pasta: Very easy this -Add dried spaghetti, linguine or pasta to another saucepan -Add a teaspoon of salt and a 1/2 tablespoon of oil -Add boiling water to cover the pasta plus a little more, say 1/2 an inch in an average saucepan -Heat the pan, don't allow to boil over -Ready according to taste, usually when the pasta starts turning whiter colour -This should take about 10 minutes, its slightly quicker than cooking the bolognese so bear that in mind before you start -Sieve the water and serve I use this recipe all the time and its easily adaptable for vegetarians using quorn mince and vegetable stock. My parents taught me this before I moved away to university and it's awesome!! Any questions let me know, anyone else use this or anything they do different that maybe I could try sometime? If I have anything that seems questionable that you might not agree with again let me know, I would appreciate the feedback. ;D (I promise it looks more complicated than it is!!) the bbc has a version here www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/spaghettibolognese_2071hope that helps!!

My vegetarian lazy meals are:
spinach à la creme with pasta. cook spinach in pan, boil pasta. put them together and you have a meal.
white pasta. It is possible to make pasta without tomato's, you just need a cup of crème fresh and some mushrooms. You can add whatever left over veggies you've got to this. Cook the pasta (preferably spaghetti) fry cut mushrooms. Put left over veggies in same frying pan as those mushrooms. mix the pasta with mushrooms and crême fresh and add some white wine.
Cauliflower mushroom soup (15 minutes) cut the Cauliflower in a lot of peaces and boil it. Add mushroom bouillon cube to it (hope you will be able to find that at the super market). Add half a cup of cream cheese to it and some fried mushrooms.

Chicken Broccoli Casserole! It is one of my favorite healthy dinners my mom makes. Here's the link for ingredients: www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,198,141165-231201,00.html . I'd like for you to make a vlog while cooking it, because it is easy but it does take some time to cook. Also; It still tastes very good when you re-heat it, but you got to eat it quickly after you microwave it so that the chicken won't become cold again.
